The Brand Down Under

Politicians down under have decided to fund initiatives directed at establishing “Brand Sydney”. The goal of Brand Sydney is to encourage tourism in the city, something that has been on a downward trend for the past few years (despite the best efforts of Irish backpackers). The new branding will even include a logo that will aim to be as famous as “I Love NY”. Its difficult to gauge the success of any new branding initiatives but it will be interesting to see if the number of tourists increase after Brand Sydney is launched. Read about it here

In The Blyk

Blyk, the first free mobile network to be funded by advertising, has now got over 100,000 people to sign up for it’s service in the UK. Users (all aged 16-24 year) who sign up to the network receive advertising messages on their mobiles and, in return, are given an allowance of free texts and minutes each month. The two Finnish guys behind it know what they’re doing - one used to be president of Nokia and the other was chairman of Contra advertising group. Here’s a brief video explaining the concept.
